Recently, the partnership between SATS Ltd and AirAsia in ground-handling services is making a noteworthy move towards sustainability and innovation. They are currently testing two Hangcha tow tractors that have been leased for their ground-handling operations and get a successful trial run. Musdalifa Abdullah, CEO of GTR said, "We are excited to introduce EVs to our operations at KLIA Terminal 2 following a successful trial run that began in August. This marks a major step forward in our commitment to sustainability and innovation in the aviation industry."

X series electric tow tractor with a capacity range from 20,000 to 32,000kg is suitable for operating in indoor and outdoor environments, making it an ideal choice for customers such as airports, ports, and railways. 

It is equipped with a standard 80.5V 404Ah battery and can last long. During the initial trial, GTR observed that the electric tractors could provide power for ground handling operations for 7 hours on a single charge, resulting in approximately 58% reduction in overall operational costs, which verifies the long-lasting battery life of our batteries. 

The successful implementation of the EV tractors during this trial period demonstrated the feasibility and benefits of transitioning to electric vehicles for ground handling services. GTR plans to deploy vehicles in various areas of its operation, including baggage handling, transportation, and maintenance services. As part of its long-term plan, it aims to reduce carbon emissions by reducing its reliance on diesel towing fleets. It also aims to optimize operating costs and enhance the overall airport experience for airlines and cargo customers.
